Product Overview

Overview

Protect your cabinets from grease (and your nostrils from lingering odours) with the help of this KitchenAid retractable downdraft vent. This vent is able to rise to a height of 14 inches, which allows it to sweep away steam even from tall stockpots, then it sinks down to be flush with the cooking surface when it's not needed.

Features

  • 600 CFM Pro motor is powerful enough to effectively vent steam, grease, and odours for most cooktops and ranges
  • Features a 65K BTU threshold so it's compatible with most 36- or 30-inch cooktops, including some commercial-style models
  • The retractable downdraft design allows the vent to rise up when it's needed (to a height of 14 inches so it works even for tall stockpots) and then retract down to be flush with the cooking surface when you're done
  • The retractable design provides space for grease to collect, making it easier to clean
  • The motor box is reversible so it can be installed on either side of the downdraft, giving you the versatility to free up space beneath the cooking surface

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor performance. I have had this product for less than a year and already it has been replaced completely under the warranty. The second one still 'sticks' when in elevation mode and doesn't come up all the way - this will probably have to be replaced too. It's noisy when the extractor fans are turned on and it doesn't remove cooking odors, steam, fumes etc. which is the whole point of having it - our venting system is excellent - there are no blockages - so why doesn't the downdraft suck away fumes etc? I would NOT recommend this product to anyone - along with my new Kitchenaid 48" built-in, side-by-side refrigerator - the ice maker has been replaced once already and now the new one has ceased to work - we're waiting for a new 'shoot' - meanwhile - no ice also less than a year old!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Has not seen a single meal cooked in front of it! This product did what several reviewers said it did. On installation, had problems going up and down! Pulled 1 filter and it retracted and stopped responding completely! I have family coming for Thanksgiving and have no idea how to fix or who to call! So far not impressed! Please contact me today KitchenAid! I just put all kitchenaid products in my kitchen. Please don't make me regret!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wasn’t sure how I would feel about this.... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So I watch a lot of home improvement shows, and I keep seeing episodes of Property Brothers where they go into the “before” house and these pop-up downdraft systems are talked about as being real pains in the butt and something that will be replaced. Then they do the remodel and they move the stove to a more traditional location with a hood. During the build phase of our custom home I changed the location of the cooktop probably 5 times. Under the window, on the island, then back to the window...finally our builder said “make a final decision - we need the gas and water lines installed.” So it remained in the island. We’re in an area that does not require a range hood, which is good because there was no way I was going to have a range hood in the middle of my island! Talk about disrupting my beautiful open concept design. The appliance store recommended the downdraft as an option, again not required, and after doing some research my husband decided he wanted it. I honestly didn’t care on way or the other. It’s fine. It does what it’s supposed to do. But it’s loud. The KitchenAid dishwasher makes not a sound but this thing drowns out the TV and any conversation. I use it if I’ve got more than just one pot on the stove but I use it and put it back down pretty quick.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice but doen't raise up We like the retractable vent system; however, the vent won't go up. The filter popped out after cleaning as the unit was going down. Now I can't raise the vent to put the filter back in. Electricity is going to the system. The manual says the system won't work without the filter engaging a microswitch and I can't raise it to put the filter back in.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't know what to think at this point. Doing a complete kitchen remodel with all Kitchen Aid products. Just had my contractor and electrician install our new cooktop & venting system. Cooktop seems to be working fine but the fan does not rise up. The button only goes down just a fraction of an inch. The electrician thinks the problem is with the button. I really don't know what to think.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good bang for buck [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this a month ago and did the install ourselves. This was to replace a Jenn Air unit that was a stove top with downdraft unit together. Directions were good and videos assisted with ease of install. I did have to move the outward air inside the cabinet, but that is not unit related. We have used the unit several times and really like the height and cfm. This sucks in steam from our 9” stock pot. This is so much better than the prior unit that was only burner high. I cannot give this or any other downdraft unit a full 5 stars because they cannot do what an overhead system can. Compared to all the other units, this is definitely worth the price!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is a story... This was part of a Kitcheaid set installed in mid Sept. The first one was installed but did not work. The second worked but titled to the right when it came up all the way. The 3rd arrived damaged in the box. The 4th installed and operated but when goes down the cap pops off... lets just say it is very disappointing customer experience.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from want so much to rate it higher I've owned this unit for 5 years, and like the design, 14" height, 600 cfm, and one touch control. However, I am about to replace the control board again. At $350 per board (plus labor), this is high maintenance product. Unforthnately, once you cut granite to fit the vent, its tough to retrofit with something else.
