Rated 2 out of 5 by Allen1979 from Chemical taste Had this kettle for 2 months, I boil it at least twice a day plus the initial 30 times as soon as I baught it, to boil off the chemical leaching from the silicone that surrounds the heat plate on the inside of the pot. So I've boiled this pot at least 150 times! To rid this smell. I've used baking soda, vinigar with no luck. Is it that hard to design a kettle with no plastic or silicone coming in contact with my drinking water. Toxic chemicals is what makes that smell no doubt about it 100%. That said everything else about this kettle is amazing it's such a shame. I hope kitchen aid can help with this issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by The Gardens from Least Plastic Kettle Aesthetically we are very pleased, in our opinion one of the nicest we checked out. It was the kettle (glass or metal) we could find with the least amount of plastic coming into contact with the water. It appears the only contact is with silicon on the lid and handle attachment. The temperature options is a plus. Maintains heat for around 30 minutes after reaching chosen temperature if you don't remove kettle from base, and indicates when that 30 minutes has expired. One major caveat, if you set it to full boil it does not shut-off. KitchenAid does not know if this is by design, and while helpful they have not resolved this issue/concern.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CoffeeTeaLover from Best Glass Tea Kettle... Period! (This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I am not too quick to write reviews, I like to really test the product I am reviewing. After owning this kettle for just over a year with moderate-heavy use, I am very pleased with its durability and functionality. It is very appealing aesthetically and performs perfectly! I use it for my pour-over coffee and “gongfu” style tea, and have never experienced any sort of weird flavour or smell. To be able to select different temperatures is ideal! Overall, it is a great product and I am quite pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by rms9163z from Good, but not great for correct tea brewing method I received this as a Christmas gift. It replaced a good electric kettle that started to leak after a few years. The KitchenAid kettle does not have a thermometer; only a thermostat. There is no way to know the current temperature of the water. The thermocouple is located in a good position within the kettle. Many kettles with thermometer probes do not go all the way down into the water. The alarm only sounds when the temperature rises up to the thermostat setting; not when cooling back down to a new setting after heating the water to a higher temperature. The correct way to brew tea is to boil the water first, then let it cool down to the brewing temperature. This kettle does not have features that make it easy for the correct brewing method. A good feature of this kettle is the depth of the steeper. Other kettles and teapots have short steepers. The quality is excellent and is a good looking product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Razvan C from Awful smell Can someone please tell me how to get rid of the awful smell inside? It smells like ebonite / rubber / plastic. I've tried everything, boiled with water and vinegar, boiled with water, prepared infusions ...and throw them away. The awful smell persists, the product is not usable .

Rated 1 out of 5 by benzdriver from Plastic Tasting I have had this for a few months. Upon using it I noticed smelling of plastic rubber burn smell. It has been at least 3 months already of daily use and I STILL SMELL IT when i use it. I thought it was in my head until my family raised the question why does it smell like rubber burning everytime you pour? This is now more of a health concern and if not rectified, I think it is possible to raise a class action lawsuit. After reading online, I realized I was not the only one with this issue.

Rated 2 out of 5 by DisappointedCustomer from Good but leaves a nasty taste It is a nice kettle looks really good but leaves a TCP type taste in the water. Shame really as the taste taints the tea and coffee so it was a waste as it will now be abandoned. The nasty taste aside, it was a good kettle.
